Imprint & privacy

To be completed before going public

The address in square brackets is a placeholder. An imprint is a legal requirement in Austria for a site like this (§ 5 ECG, § 25 MedienG) — and a wrong one is worse than a missing one. Note also that § 5 ECG asks for the operator’s name: “DerGeorg” is a brand, not a name. Until there is a company behind it, the legal name belongs here.

This is a private, non-commercial project. Nothing on this site is sold and no payment is taken.

Privacy

The controller for the data processing on this site is DerGeorg (address: see imprint). This site loads nothing from third-party servers and carries neither advertising nor tracking pixels. Typeface, icons and every image are served from this domain. While you read this, no request of yours reaches anyone else.

Cookies, storage and error analysis

What the site needs to work I use without your consent; anything else only if you agree (§ 165 (3) TKG 2021, Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR). Agreeing and refusing are equally easy, and your decision only applies from then on.

At the moment this site uses only what is strictly necessary. That is why there is no cookie prompt and no decision that would have to be stored.

Necessary

Spam protection for forms (Altcha)
Provider
DerGeorg, [Strasse und Hausnummer], [Postleitzahl, Ort], Österreich
Purpose
Protects the form against automated abuse: the browser solves a small computing task and the result is sent to our server only together with the submitted form. No cookies are set and nothing is stored in the browser.
Why without consent
Strictly necessary for the security of the form the user submits (protection against abuse).
Retention
No separate storage; the result is only used to verify the submitted form.
Third country
No transfer to third countries.

About the language: if you open dergeorg.at with no language in the address, the server sends you to /de or /en based on the Accept-Language header your browser sends along. Every browser sends that header on its own; it is used for this single redirect and stored nowhere. The site therefore does not remember your language either — it is simply part of the address you are on.

Contact form. What you enter there — your message and email address, plus name and subject if you provide them — goes to this site’s own server and from there, through my own mail gateway, to me as an email. Both run on my own hardware; nothing goes to a third party. The message is not stored: this site has no database, so afterwards it exists only in my mailbox. Your address is used for the reply and nothing else. Legal basis: legitimate interest under Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (answering your enquiry).

To prevent abuse, the server remembers for one hour how many messages came from an IP address — it accepts at most five per hour. That count lives in memory only and is gone after the next restart.

The web server keeps the usual access log — IP address, time, requested path, user agent — to operate the service and spot abuse. Those entries are deleted after [number] days. Legal basis: legitimate interest under Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR.

The moment you follow one of the project links, that server sees your request. This concerns:

Each of those sites has its own privacy policy. This one applies to dergeorg.at only.

Your rights under the GDPR — access, rectification, erasure, restriction, objection and data portability — can be exercised informally at the address above. The supervisory authority is the Austrian Data Protection Authority, dsb.gv.at.

Liability for links

The linked pages were checked at the time of linking. I have no influence on how they change afterwards; their respective operators are responsible for their content.
